Defense Personal Property System (DPS) Rollout Report                                                           Colonel Miller’s Biography

As we enter 2010‚ I’d like to express my heartfelt appreciation to all of you who have continued to support and promote DPS through the holidays. Our entire team worked hard and effectively over these months as well‚ and at 11:27 am local time‚ 15 Jan 2010‚ DPS’ 100‚000th customer was counseled. As of this writing‚ 91‚425 shipments have been awarded‚ and 70‚043 shipments have been delivered using DPS.

We fully expect the next few months to be an exciting time as we roll out additional key capabilities in DPS. Short fuse shipments (those that must be picked up in 5 days or less) are now available‚ and Personally Procured Move (PPM, formerly DITY) capability will soon follow. These additional two move types will increase DPS capability to just over 70%. In coordination with SDDC‚ we are stepping up our email communications efforts to make sure we keep everyone informed as system improvements continue.

The DPS training team has been conducting classroom training at various PPSOs throughout the United States and the Pacific‚ and we’re pleased so many of you are making the most of this opportunity. We will continue to offer TSP training at conferences and symposiums throughout the year.

Move.mil is undergoing a complete redesign in order to better serve our customers and PPSO/industry partners. We are pushing for this effort to be accomplished prior to the 2010 peak season. You can expect to see a de-cluttered‚ more intuitive portal that directs each user to the most critical information with ease. We’re also working to add video snapshots for key modules that will show users what to do for claims‚ household goods moves‚ etc.

The services/industry user groups mentioned in our last update have been established‚ and we will be asking them to help us with specific feedback when we deliver upcoming releases.

In closing‚ I’d like to thank all of you once again for your patience‚ cooperation‚ and feedback as the DPS joint team strives to deliver a system that meets the needs of all concerned. I remind my team regularly that‚ ultimately‚ our goal is to improve the quality of life of every US service member and DoD civilian who makes a DoD-sponsored move. Keep up the great work and keep pressing...

MICHAEL J. MILLER, Colonel‚ USAF
Program Director‚ JPMO Household Goods Systems
and Deputy Program Executive Officer

What is DPS?

As a centralized, integrated system, Defense Personal Property System (DPS) will support Defense Personal Property Program (DP3) as the one-stop source for managing personal property moves. For the first time, Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC) will have oversight of claims and Transportation Service Provider (TSP) information in one convenient location. In addition, DPS will provide the convenience of 24/7 access to personal property shipment information and a conduit for a direct relationship between Department of Defense (DOD) members and TSPs throughout the entire moving process.
